Spend and evening among brahms' close circle of friends. Britt's concertmaster Ignace "Iggy" Jang and principal cellist Naomi Barron join forces with the orchestra to perform the Double Concerto of Johannes Brahms.
Bookending the Brahms will be an overture by his close friend violinist Joseph Joachim and a symphony by an even closer friend, Robert Schumann. Brahms wrote his Double Concerto as a peace offering for Joachim after the two parted company because Brahms had taken Joachin's ex-wife's side in a messy divorce. Eventually the friends reconciled.
Secretly in love with Clara Schuman, Brahms never pursued the romance due to his loyalty to her husband, his dear friend Robert. Clara remained an extremely close friend and the Schumann home in baden-Baden was used for the final rehearsals of the Double Concerto which Joachim performed in its premier in 1887.
