Bonnie Raitt

Monday, September 1, 2008 • 7:30 p.m.

bonnieraitt.jpgThe redheaded blueswoman's soulful, unaffected way of singing, and her uncanny insights into blues guitar have made her more than just a best-selling artist, respected guitarist, expressive singer and accomplished songwriter. Bonnie Raitt has become an institution in American music. "Thing Called Love," "Nick Of Time," "Love Letter," "Have A Heart," "Something To Talk About," "I Can't Make You Love Me," "Not the Only One" and "Love Sneakin' Up On You" are just a few of the singles attributed to the nine-time Grammy-winner and social activist.

Special guest The Curtis Salgado Band

Oregon favorite Curtis Salgado opens the concert. Sagado started his own band in the burgeoning Northwest blues scene in the early ‘70s, then was a key part of the formative years of the Robert Cray Band. Later he left to front the respected Roomful of Blues. He even had a stint as lead vocalist with Carlos Santana in 1995. Along the way, he inspired John Belushi to create the Blues Brothers when Belushi was in Eugene to film Animal House.

After a personal roller coaster during the last two years that included a life-saving liver transplant, Salgado is healthy and recording again. He’s currently working on a new album.

WooHOOOO, that girl can wail!!! Fabulous night all around. Curtis and his band really got things moving; I loved their new one which declares “two weeks with you taught me more about the blues than 20 years of BB King” ... gotta love it!

Bonnie was in fine form and wandered around from blues to ballads to reggae to rock n’ roll (plus a wonderful rendition of John Prine’s Angel from Montgomery with Curtis on harp). She was charming and entertaining and played some of my favorites. She had most of the audience on their feet and shakin’ it by the encores.

Take a look at the Mail Tribune’s web site to read what Bill Varble thought of the concert.

Curtis got things rolling as usual… The man is awesome and the crowd loves him! Bonnie was fantastic! I’ve always wanted to see her in concert and the girl can still rock it! My favorite concert of the year! And I was there 10 times this year.
