Crosby, Stills & Nash
Sunday, June 1, 2008 • 7:30 p.m.
Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) have captivated the world with their peerless three-part harmony, inspired songwriting and brilliant musicianship for more than three decades. They have been called "the voice of an entire generation" touching fans with timeless hits including "Marrakesh Express," "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Helplessly Hoping," "Guinnevere," "Teach Your Children," "Wooden Ships," "Dark Star" and "Just A Song Before I Go," to name just a few. Reviews:
Stills is really having problems, but Crosby was in fantastic voice, best in a decade, and Nash is always the steady influence. All in all, a good show.
I agree with the previous reviewer. Stills really was having problems, both with his voice and his guitar work. This was their second show on their summer tour, and although both Crosby and Nash sounded good, I got the feeling that the three of them hadn’t worked out some of the kinks in their performance. In addition, there was no encore! It truly was an average performance that fell short of the $57 price of admission.
Glad to have this venue. I actually emailed Britt to post a complaint about the concert. I agree with both previous comentaries. I’ll also add that the group of people I was with did not appreciate paying to hear someone’s political views whether we agree or not, it was not the place for it. Also we have always felt that Britt was pretty much a family atmosphere and that was the first time I heard the F word on stage from any performer and we’ve been gooing to concerts for the last 12 years. I’d say out of the 35 to 40 concerts I’ve gone to, this is in the bottom 2.
In our opinion, this performance was really lacking. Not only the political stuff (from a Britt none the less), the F word and the fact they did not play very many of the songs they were known for. To us it seemed like a trio of old guys trying to push some new stuff on the audiance with the obvious intent of making some new music sales … where did their previous millions go? No encore and they were on the bus out of town before we exited the reserve seats. They were selling a T-shirt “Teach Your Children”, but did not sing the song. Sorry, but our money is better spent elsewhere; they did not appear to be trying. Maybe it was jet lag from their first performance in Santa Rosa.
OMG! Were we all at the same concert??? I LOVED this concert! CSN were not the same youths who filled our hearts with song and uplifted us decades ago, but who expected them to be? For me,they were still brightly alive and present, and putting on a great show.Stills’ voice is weak, but his guitar work is still fine.Nash is feisty, funny, intelligent, and a solid singer.Crosby’s voice is still WONDERFUL and sweet, and downright dreamy.I was sad they didn’t sing “Teach Your Children Well.”Maybe they planned to do it for an encore, but Britt wouldn’t let them, because it was already after 10. For the reviewer who had such a problem regarding their speaking up against the war,I have to wonder why you even came to their concert in the first place.Who did you think they were? This was a delightful concert. It made me feel like a young thing again, and that was more than worth the price of admission.
I have to agree with the last post, the night was magic…
It does not bother me to hear someone speaking out against the current war. What did you expect? This is the same group of musicians who spoke out against the Viet Nam war.
The music selection was good. I like the old stuff but I also like the new stuff, can’t you let a man grow…
Maybe the next time “Britt Patron” will make a better selection and someone else will have the opportunity to see CSN.
I also agree with the last two reviews. I thought the concert was amazing! It was a real treat to see them at this venue. I enjoyed everything about the show, just wish they could have played longer! I would come to see them again in a heartbeat. Though next time I would come early and stand in line so I could be right up front!!
I don’t understand why someone would want to see Crosby, Stills and Nash and think that they would not speak their politics. I’m hope Britt Patron didn’t see their Freedom of Speech tour.
This was a much anticipated concert for me as I have been wanting to see CSN for over 35 years. I was not disappointed in their music which brought me back many years. Although I don’t agree with their political views and wished they would just “Shut up and sing” – I went in to the concert expecting some comments from them. My biggest complaint is that they seemed to have to rush off the stage to end their concert without allowing for an ending song or any encores. Since this happened with Judy Collins as well it leaves me wondering if the performers are aware of this requirement ahead of time.
I really enjoyed the performance and the entire evening. As far as the politics go – so what – this is America, remember? If you don’t like the politics don’t go – It’s all part of the show and why people still love this band. To you people who thought the performance was lacking – give these guys a break, they’re all 60 plus, they can still rock and they can still draw a crowd—They’re R&R legands and I sure didn’t hear anyone booing them. I too wish there would have been an encore – too bad about the 10:00 o’clock curfew. I would definitely love to see CSN at Britt again.
They sounded very, very tired, and I suppose they are. I was dissapointed, but then I went expecting to hear memories. That’s what vinyl is for.
