Diane Schuur featuring Dave Samuels and the Caribbean Jazz Project
Saturday, September 3, 2005 • 7:30 p.m.
Diane Schuur's interpretative powers and her legendary three-and-a-half octave vocal range have earned her the title of "the new First Lady of jazz," five Grammy nominations, two Grammy awards and acclaim from critics worldwide. On her latest CD, she is joined by the fiery Grammy Award-wining Caribbean Jazz Project, who for more than a decade have redefined Latin jazz with their uniquely exciting and uncompromising merging of Latin rhythms with envelope-pushing improvisation. Spurred by the zealous vibe and marimba pyrotechnics of virtuoso mallet-man Dave Sammuels, this band takes Latin jazz to new heights. This project includes repertoire originally not recorded as Latin music- tunes like Duran Duran's "Ordinarty Worls," Frank Sinatra's "More Than You Know," Ray Charles' "I Can't Stop Loving You" and Stevie Wonder's "As."
