Thursday, June 22, 2006 • 7:30 p.m.

elviscostello-small.jpgRock 'n' roll Hall of Fame artist Elvis Costello has a prolific career spanning nearly 30 years and is regarded as one of today's most influential singer/songwriters. He is best known for his performances with The Attractions and The Imposters, but his songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and No Doubt. In 2002 he released When I Was Cruel and in 2003, he forged a songwriting partnership with his wife Diana Krall. His latest collabortaion is with New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint on a new album The River in Reverse.

Producer, songwriter, arranger, session pianist, solo and recording artist-- Allen Toussaint has worn all these hats over the course of his lengthy career. His laid-back vocals and elegant funky piano work have made him a legend of New Orleans and R&B. Toussaint and Costello recently appeared on the 2006 Grammy Award Show honoring this legendary artist.

Wonderful collaboration between Elvis and Allen Toussaint, with a whole new epoch in Costello’s musical journey. Some of the audience came, expecting a trip down memory lane, but those who have been listening to the newest music were treated to a wonderful selection of songs from River in Reverse, and the added treat of new Toussaint arrangements of Elvis’ previous hits. High quality evening of music, thanks.
