John McLaughlin Williams, Guest Conductor

Saturday, August 18, 2007 • 7 p.m.

platypustheatre1.jpgWhat is the bird if she has no song? So ashamed by her silence is the rare and awkward Gimquat bird that she has taken refuge in a hollow tree. where she pines and bemoans her woeful state. But one day she meets a magician who opens a whole new world to her, taking her on a fantastic journey through space and time in search of the perfect song. Gimquat and the audience discover the music of the ages.

Canada's Platypus Theater has been garnering rave reviews from critics, educators, musicians, parents and children around the world for 15 years. Combining live actors, masks and puppets with a live orchestra, the company has been lauded for its immensely creative, entertaining and interactive productions.

Well planned event for children (though a bit over the head of my 3-year old grandson); the whimsical romp through classical music history was light, fun and well worth exploring in other ways in the future.
