Gypsy Soul was the perfect choice to initiate the season. They delivered a substantive performance worthy of the Britt with strong, pretty songs, gorgeous vocals, and feel-good lyrics that evoked for me the local character. Although I had never heard them before, spending the evening with them felt like being among wonderfully talented neighbors. It was a lovely community event in an ideal setting and on a beautiful night.

I only hope that next year the opening acts are shorter, and more seriously chosen to appeal to the audience for the headline act. No offense the bands, but I didn’t really see the connection between these two groups and Gypsy Soul, beyond a shared influence of acoustic folk in the broadest sense. I believe Gypsy Soul earned their place at the Britt much more studiously. No one should assume they have built such a fan base simply by being local.
