His creative path has moved fluidly among almost every development in acoustic jazz and R&B since 1960. As the immortal Miled Davis said, "Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, and I haven't heard anybody yet who has come after him."

Now in their 24th year, Steve Smith & Vital Information has become a formidable jazz/fusion juggernaut. The all-star lineup of Steve Smith on drums (Journey/Steps Ahead), Tom Coster on keyboards (Santana), Baron Browne on bass (Billy Cobham/Jean-Luc Ponty) and Vinny Valentino on guitar (Bill Evans/JimmyMcGriff) serve up a veritable banquet of sounds, from slamming funk and syncopated second line grooves to seriously swinging, uptempo B-3 burners, South Indian Carnatic inspired jams and sizzling fuzoid romps.
