Symphony No. 9, From the New World |
The hypnotic tone poem The Pleasure-Dome of Kubla Khan composed by American Impressionist Charles Tomlinson Griffes maintains a dreamy, evocative quality. Influenced by Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem of the same name, this work is also exotic and sensually rich.
Dvorak intended his Symphony No. 9 to be "impressions and greetings from the New World." Inspired in part by Logfellow's poem The Song of Hiawatha, this masterwork of symphonic music was enriched by the composer's first sojurn in Americaa.
Pianist Jeff Kahane, a long-time favorite of Britt audiences, was the featured guest artist that evening. Equally sought after as a conductor, soloist and chamber musician, Mr. Kahane is in his tenth season as Music Director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
