| BACH-RESPIGHI |
Prelude and Fugue in D Major |
| RACHMANINOFF |
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini |
| BRAHMS-SCHOENBERG |
Piano Quartet in g minor |
Works of three musical giants- Bach, Paganini and Brahms- wil be presented as re-worked by three other musical greats- Respighi, Rachmaninoff and Schoenberg.
Pianist Norman Kreiger is haied by the Washington Post as, "an artist of unusual sensitivity with the technical control to do absolutely anything he wants and the sense to do so poetically." Rachmaninoff's Romantic Rhapsody is the composer's final and most perfect work for piano and orchestra.
The second half of the concert wil feature an amazing orchestral transcription of a beloved piano quartet. Schoenberg's opulent orchestration of the Brahms' Piano Quartet in g minor is ful of gaudy orchestral color. Arnold Schoenberg called this "Brahms' Fifth Symphony" because the work is quite faithful to Brahms, but the scoring is distinctly his own.
