This program shines a spotlight on the wide variety of tonal colors in the orchestra beginning with a focus on the woodwinds as they play a movement from Handel's well-known Music for the Royal Fireworks. Next, the spotlight shifts to brass instruments as the Britt horn section is featured in a performance of the spectacular Schumann Concertstück.
Brass pyrotechnics continue as special guest trumpeter Alison Balsom comes to Britt from Great Britain. Although she makes her home in the U.K., Alison is in demand all over the world as a soloist. Featured on Ravinia's 2007 season with the Chicago Symphony as well as at the BBC Proms in London, she is fast becoming an international favorite. Alison will play Haydn's Trumpet Concerto and a seductive tango composed by Argentinean Astor Piazzolla.
Christopher Rouse's wild yet intricate Caribbean rhythms offer a sensuous and energetic showcase of the percussion section.Ogoun Badagris is an amazing work that employs five percussionists playing about 50 different instruments. This is an opportunity to see and hear the members of the Britt Orchestra "kitchen" as you've never heard them before.
The concert will close with a beloved favorite-Tchaikovsky's lush, romantic Serenade for Strings. The 58-member Britt string section will leave you humming his unforgettable melodies as you stroll from the Britt hill in the moonlight.

Reviews:
trumpeter Alison Balsom was so very amazing. I was soo in awe of her playing, her dress, her beauty.
But I also saw nothing not to love in the classical season this year. What a great program, orchestra and venue. And at least at classical we do not have the conundrum or dancing or no dancing to witness. It is so distracting. Wish we had a higher stage. We really need that and an area for the dancers .. maybe near the disabled area?
But NOT FOR CLASSICAL!
