The indie rock band The New Pornographers has received critical and popular acclaim (along with numerous solo ventures from band members A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Dan Bejar and Kathryn Calder). The band enjoys
an incredible amount of bench strength in at least two startlingly good
songwriters, three spectacularly good singers, one of the best drummers in
contemporary music and an in-house filmmaker. Champions of the popular song,
The New Pornographers are unable to resist the challenge to make a perfect
album. Their fifth album Together is due
out in May.
Dancing is expected at this performance, and may disrupt blanket seating in front of the stage

The Dodos
The Dodos’ wildly-percussive style is centered around two
key elements: the punchy percussion of Logan Kroeber and the Fahey-infused
finger-picking of frontman Meric Long. Their third album Time to Die expands the Dodos’ Ginsu-sharp sound with the
introduction of new band member Keaton Snyder.
Singer-songwriter Imaad Wasif will open the concert.
Described as “unbelievably intense with sparkling, raga-influenced guitar,” he
co-wrote several songs for the soundtrack to Where the Wild Things Are.

What a perfectly lovely night with three interesting bands. I was surprised to see the crowd was a bit sparse given the quality of the acts and the relatively low priced tickets (for Britt).
All three acts were much appreciated by the audience. Mr Imaad Wasif played interesting and unusual songs – wow – he had astoundingly skinny legs ! Seriously, I was afraid he was going to hurt himself when he started leaping about the stage.
The Dodos did a lot of interesting things with percussion – quite unique and original – the crowd loved them.
It seemed most of the crowd came to see the New Pornographers who put on a wonderful show. They had a nine piece band with three guitars, drums, bass, Neko, two organs, and a man who played cello and saxophone. I think they all sang.
The show was tight and fairly energetic – although there seemed to be a bit of discord on stage. Dan (one of the singers) seemed a bit disoriented and after a few songs he wandered off the stage and didn’t return when beckoned back onstage by his colleagues. He would later return a few times but it looked like he just came out to tell somebody something and he’d meander off again. I don’t know – maybe it’s part of their act (?) but it seemed to take a little wind out of their sails.
But regardless of that the music was tight, energetic, and bright. Great band.
