An Evening of Bluegrass & Banjo

Sunday, June 20 • 8 p.m.

SteveMartin.jpg Steve Martin has proven to be one of the most diversified performers in the entertainment industry today. His successful foray into the music world includes the release of his first bluegrass album The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo, which reached #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Album chart in 2009, and won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album in February. Martin also won a Grammy in 2001 for his collaboration with bluegrass banjo legend Earl Scruggs on Foggy Mountain Breakdown.

Abigail Washburn

A fascination with China has led banjo player and singer Abigail Washburn into groundbreaking new territory for an American bluegrass musician. After graduating from college, she lived in China for a time. Her first solo album Song of the Traveling Daughter, featured two songs recorded in Mandarin Chinese. In 2005, she returned to China with the Sparrow Quartet, which also includes Béla Fleck, cellist Ben Sollee, and fiddler Casey Driessen. Their first full-length album, Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet, was released in 2008. She is releasing her second solo album this year.

This performances was magic. I truly enjoyed this. I thought it was going to contain some slap stick comedy, and I am not a fan of slap stick, and I came because my daughter wanted to come. I was impressed. He was wonderful. Mark me happy

A wonderful balance of music and humor. The banjo goes so well with comedy, because it is such a happy sound. If your are near a city on Steve Martin’s tour, this is a must see show. The Steep Canyon Rangers’ harmony is a wonderful blend of country and barbershop. They also played a great straight man to Martin’s jokes. Lots of fun and laughter.
