Right from their start in 1990, The Black Crowes' debut album Shake Your Moneymaker sold over 5 million albums and kick-started an authentic style of rock 'n' roll in America. The Black Crowes' music is a heady mix of rock 'n' roll, funkadelic soul, blues, gospel and heartfelt roots. While the sheer attitude and charm of their many hits like "Hard To Handle," "Twice As Hard," "Remedy" and "She Talks to Angels" managed to make big waves, the intervening years have seen the band steadily evolve an increasingly refined, singular sound that combines the best parts of hard rock, gospel, country, psychedelia and anything else it fancies. Their powerful new album Warpaint finds the band in top fighting form.

Reviews:
I was sorely disappointed. I had hoped to hear a lot more of their older songs that have been popular for years. I heard one. And it was the last song.
Ditto – I didn’t even hear the last song – we left early. A first for us at Britt.
I was really disappointed. The band did not play “She Talks to Angels”, “Remedy”, “Hard to Handle”, “Twice as Hard” or “Seeing Things…”. I felt totally ripped off. They only played “Thorn In My Pride” and “Jealous Again” as far as the old stuff goes. I paid good money for my tickets with the thought in mind that I was going to get to hear all or at least most of my old favorites. So, I really did get ripped off at my first Britt Show. Britt people said they are not responsible for what the band plays. After this show they should take more precautions to make sure that the hits get played before 10:30p curfew. Britt people said go complain at the bands website. That is my next stop. I am not a happy customer.
Hi Andrea—Thanks for your review. I’m sorry you were disappointed in not hearing those songs. As you might guess, Britt doesn’t have any control over what artists play (or what they say) from stage. I hope your experience won’t prevent you from coming back to give Britt another try. Thanks, Sara King Cole—Britt Festivals
Andrea, I completely agree with you. I absolutely love Britt and know that they have no control over the play lists. I was at another concert Friday (G Love & Special Sauce), and it was wonderful. This was the Black Crowes decision and everyone I’ve spoken to feels the same way. Terrible. My brother saw them a few years ago and this was not the case. He was there on Sunday and was disappointed. They were definitely promoting their new music, which is fine. However, I think that most people go to concerts to sing along with the stuff they know. Then we buy their newer stuff. $90+ down the drain in my opinion. =(
There is a caption on Guitar Hero 3 that states “People did not pay money to hear you jam”. That pretty much sum’s up The Black Crowes concert at Britt. The concert was horrible, BUT the venue is great!
I thought the band sounded great. They are a great band and I thought the music was good. I too, was disappointed that they didn’t play enough of their old music; even though I didn’t know the songs they were playing, they sounded great! I will definitely buy their new album.
We missed The Black Crowes at The Britt, but saw them two days earlier at McMenamins Edgefield, and they blew us away as usual! They played for well over two hours and sang all the old songs, plus a nice mix of new stuff. They even sang some Little Feat songs which had everybody up and moving!! Too bad Kevin and the rest of the posters missed The Crowes @ Edgefeild!!
i read the jambands review from up above. The writer was apparently at a different performance. I was in the first row and did not see anyone lifting up their wine glasses to the band. I did, however, see some thrown at the band. Have been going to Britt for over 20 years and don’t mind paying for a fantastic venue and intimate concerts. People do so to hear the hits, see a “show”. The Black Crowes performance was obviously for their own benefit – not ours!
To quote The Grinch – Stink, Stank, Stunk. These guys did not want to be at The Britt and it showed. Self absorbed jam session. Hey guys, if you don’t want to play a gig, do us a favor and keep on driving, don’t waste our time and money. Big fan that was sorely disappointed. The good news, the season ended at Britt with a thud but opened with Los Lonely Boys in 09 with a bang. They were great.
A “Real Black Crowes Fan” knows this was a great show…..Great bands are allowed to do a wide set list, especially a band like this that tours their tales off compared to others just in it for fame and $$$$……This was the 6th time I have seen them and every show is completely different and worth it….We should be happy that we don’t have to drive to Portland or Reno to see some decent shows. Be happy Britt can bring bands like this!!!
