I fell in love with the blues last night (July 1). “The King of Blues,” BB King, celebrates his sixth decade of performing. Let me tell you, he truly is king! At 82, BB King can still bring the house down.
BB King now performs sitting down. He explained to the crowd that he is suffering from diabetes, and at 82 years old, he needs to sit down to play. Throughout his set, he shared stories of his blues past, his experience of growing up in the Deep South during segregation and his misadventures with women.
My favorite part of the evening was when he sang “You Are My Sunshine.” He told the men in the audience to always revere the woman in your life and make her feel important.
"When Love Comes to Town," a song that Bono of U2 wrote for BB King was phenomenal. Those guitar rifts that BB King plays with his Lucille (his guitar)...simply amazing.
The concert was a fabulous experience and a history lesson on the blues. This morning I downloaded BB King’s Live album on my iPod before I left for work. He has got me hooked.
