A Britt Institute Alum Plays the Britt Stage!

On The One, a jazz/funk/soul ensemble from San Diego, opens for Earth, Wind & Fire tomorrow night, Thursday, June 26. One of On The One’s co-founders is saxophonist Jesse Molloy, who has strong ties to Britt and the area. He’s a graduate of Ashland High School and SOU, and he’s an alumnus of Britt Institute’s Instrumental Jazz Camp, which he attended when he was 16, in the mid-‘90s. You may have seen him on an ad for SOU that’s currently running on local television.
It’s fitting that Jesse’s performing on the Britt stage this week, as the 2008 Jazz Camp students are in session. Jesse says, “It’s exciting for myself and On The One that the Britt music experience has come full circle. It’s an honor coming back to play after attending Britt Jazz camp in high school.”
Jesse and the rest of the band will be “giving back” when they teach a master class to the Jazz Camp students tomorrow afternoon.
This year’s Jazz Camp students will be in the audience tomorrow night to watch On The One and Earth, Wind & Fire—we’ll be watching to see who might be back at Britt in a few more years!

The master class ON THE ONE conducted for our jazz students attending the Instrumental Jazz Camp was rated the number one experience the students had all week in their evaluations. Probably one of the most inspiring things the guys said to the kids was “if you make it, and you’re on the road, don’t forget your family. Call you mom. You have to be right with your family to make good music.” That night a lot of moms got the phone calls they were waiting for from their happy campers! And the kids went wild at Earth, Wind and Fire. Tremendous day from start to finish. Joelle Graves – Britt Education Director
