Pre-concert talk with Bruce Crawford on Friday, Aug. 8

Posted Aug 06, 2008 at 06:34 PM in General, Classical

Katy Korngold Hubbard, granddaughter of one of our featured film score composers was scheduled to give the pre-concert talk on Aug. 8 at The Golden Age of Silver Screen (Part I) featuring Janet Sung, but she is unable to come. She has been replaced by Bruce Crawford, who is a passionate film music expert. Peter Bay is very excited about Mr. Crawford’s participation and Britt patrons will love what he adds to the concert experience.

Mr. Crawford will be giving the pre-concert talk prior to our Fri., Aug. 8 program and speaking from the stage during the concert just prior to the Bernard Herrmann/Hitchcock pieces regarding his personal experience with the composer and some anecdotes about the Hitchcock films and their music. He will also be providing some context for the film works featured on our Aug. 9 concert.

In 1998, Bruce produced a 2-hour special for NPR on Bernard Herrmann’s film music (Hitchcock films in particular) and he also produced a 2-hour NPR special on Miklos Rozsa (especially the score to Ben Hur). These are two of the main composers we are featuring during our two-night “Golden Age of the Silver Screen” concerts.

Crawford travels the country and is a leading film music expert. He recently was featured with the Minnesota Orchestra as narrator for a film music festival they offered.
He has all sorts of stories to share and is anxious to talk with others who share his passion for film.

Bruce’s website is www.omahafilmevent.com if you’re interested in seeing more information about him.
