The best part about starting this 2012 New Year? Britt Festivals gets to celebrate its 50th year! With this being our 50th year, we have much to celebrate and one of these things is the gift of our new orchestra chairs! Where did we get these chairs, you ask? Well, the story behind these brand new orchestra chairs involves an organization that doesn't always get recognized by the public for what they do...that's all going to change. Cue the Britt Society!
The Britt Society provides financial and volunteer services to Britt Festivals. Volunteers do everything from selling merchandise, to cleaning up the hill after a concert, to fundraising, to setting up various Britt Festival events. By mainly selling Britt merchandise, the Britt Society was able to save $30,000. Yes, that's right...thirty thousand dollars. This $30,000 bought 102 brand new, high-end quality, decades lasting orchestra chairs. This "chairitable" gift was above and beyond the annual financial contribution.
Orchestra chairs are unique. To each instrument, the chair is specifically designed for that instrument. For example, a cello chair is slanted slightly forward so that the artist is able to sit comfortably on the edge of the chair so that the cello is at the perfect playing position. These chairs will provide the Britt Orchestra comfort and stability that the original 40-year-old chairs did not.
Thanks to the Britt Society, these chairs are just one new addition to the Britt Festivals that will take us to the next level. So next time you come to a show, don't forget all that goes on behind the scenes, and especially remember the Britt Society! Cheers to the New Year! Cheers to the Britt Society! And cheers to the chairs!
