Medici TV

Posted Jan 26, 2009 at 09:23 AM in Classical

This could be old news for most of you, but I just discovered this wonderful thing called Medici TV! This site provides real-time free classical performances by renowned artists. This is so exciting!

In the age of YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Youmeo, Twitter and Flickr, making classical music available as web-delivered content is a smart move. This is a great way to make classical music more relevant and accessible to younger generations.

Here is an interview with Medici TV director Hervé Boissière. He makes an interesting observation: "It has become increasingly apparent that the combination of audio-visual elements and the Internet is the new and more effective way for reaching new audiences and promoting artists."

And why is it called Medici TV? Well, the Medici family was one of the greatest supporters of the arts during the Renaissance, commissioning a wide array of music, painting, poetry and architecture. Seems logical to me. Plus it is easy to remember the next time I am in the mood to attend a concert!
