We Weathered a Stormy Start!
Posted Jun 13, 2009 at 07:01 AM in General, Behind The Scenes
Patrons at tonight's Los Lonely Boys concert are hardy music fans! The rain started coming down hard during opening act Frobeck's set, and we had to put the show on hold because of the lightning in the area. Because of the safety concerns with performing on stage during a lightning storm, and because of the threat to the lighting and sound system, we powered down until the danger passed.
For over an hour we waited to see whether the storm would pass in time for the band to put on a full show. Los Lonely Boys were finally able to take the stage at about 9:15 tonight, and put on a great, high-energy performance. Patrons who stuck out the rain were rewarded for their patience! Seeing people dance under their rain ponchos was truly a beautiful sight!
Thank you to all Britt patrons who endured the elements tonight. Thanks also to Britt volunteers, who continued working their posts even as their clothes became soaked. We so appreciate your patience and endurance, and hope to see you all back at Britt soon.

I THOUGHT IT WAS UNDER GREAT CONTROL, GREAT UPDATES TO THE CROWD AND WONDERFUL SOUTHERN OREGON WEATHER!
Have a hard time believing that the show would go on after a 90 min rain delay. I think there needs to be some recompense or repeat show. Britt can’t control the weather anymore than the airlines can, but at least you don’t have to wait in the rain for your plane
Hi Steven—Sorry you had to endure such a wet night. As an outdoor festival, we are always subject to changes in the weather. It actually wasn’t a rain delay we were dealing with— it was a lightning delay, which is rare for us to deal with. We needed to wait until the lightning risk had passed, and it was safe to turn the sound sand light equipment back on. Los Lonely Boys wanted the show to go on, and the band was very appreciative of the crowd that waited so long to hear them. Thanks for coming out in the rain!
We appreciate that you would want the concert to go on if at all possible but it seems unreasonable to expect patrons to endure a pouring rain for an hour, not to mention the danger posed by being in an open area during a lightening storm. You were justifiably concerned about the danger posed to the performers and the equipment but appear to have far less concern for the patrons. All nine in our group left because of that danger and are disappointed that you apparently see no need to compensate us in any way.
I am in agreement with the two previous comments… we too felt it was unsafe to stay out in the open and left. We were told we could go wait in our cars – but like everyone else we had to park too far away for this to be feasible and then we would have no idea if the concert was cancelled or when it would start. We got an email this morning saying we would get a credit for the tickets less the delivery charge of $7.00 (even though we picked them up at will call – what’s up with that?), and we cannot find reserved seating for any other concert we would like to see. Last year we had lawn seating twice rather than miss a concert but we won’t do that again as both times last year we could not see the stage, and when we did find a place to sit and see the stage, people stood in front of us and refused to move. I won’t mention the drunk people yelling though. So we do appreciate the offer of having a credit for our two tickets from Friday night but cannot find reserved seating for another concert and lawn tickets aren’t acceptable.
Hi Jerry and Taz-n-Anna,
Thanks for your comments. I know it was a rough night, and one we won’t soon forget! Please call our box office at 773-6077. -Sara King Cole, Marketing Manager
Sara I just called the box office and they can’t offer anything besides the above-mentipned credit. Why have us call when we already knew this, and the person we spoke with didn’t seem to want to call you??!!
Anna, Hana in the box office did come back and tell me about your conversation. I’m sorry that reserved seats were gone for the concerts you wanted in exchange. I can’t make those reserved tickets available, but If you’d like to talk to me about it anymore, you can email me. Just go to our Contact Us page and email me from there. Thanks! Sara
I’d really like to know what happened at the India.Arie concert on June 13, 2009. Did it rain then? How was the concert? I wanted to go, but was concerned about the weather. Would like any news or comments about that concert. Thank you.
It was raining on Saturday night, but the rain stopped just as the opening act was starting!
all of you people who are complaining about the rain: you live in oregon and you have whitnessed the lightning in the area for weeks now. QUIT WHINING
I enjoyed the Los Lonely Boys concert! It was an adventure and they seemed to want to make it up to us. I thought I could get hit by lightning at home as well on on the hill if it was my time . . . so I waited it out under a blue tarp and felt rewarded for waiting. The staff seemed to handle everything fine, even though it was the first show of the year.
