On Friday, August 22, 2008, a tree was planted and dedicated to former Director of Volunteer and House Operations, Teddi Wade. Teddi gave more than 20 years of service to Britt Festivals.
In honor of the special occasion, volunteer Sharon B. gave the following remarks:
I would like to start with a quote from Harriet Tubman. Always
remember, you have within you the strength, the patience and the
passion to reach for the stars and change the world. I believe those
words describe our Teddi to a “T.” Not only is it her way of being,
but also her inspiration to all of us.
We are here tonight to honor a woman who gave us 22 years of strength, passion and a lot of patience!!!!
So,
why a tree? A tree starts with a seed, just like an idea sparks
growth, the seed sprouts and sets down roots to create stability and
symbolizes the relationship of our internal spirit that we share with
others. The trunk and branches grow up and away reaching to the sky,
just as those first ideas achieve their goals, and inspire us to
continue to believe we can achieve whatever goals set before us.
When
Teddi became the Britt Volunteer Coordinator she planted those seeds,
those ideas, and through all these years, the good, the not so good,
and the fabulous, she has “watered those seeds,” tended to the
seedlings, and encouraged them grow. That is why we are dedicating a
tree as a symbol of her contribution. The long lasting life of a tree,
the nobility, and the beauty that graces our lives everyday
So on this beautiful hill, on this wonderful night of dance, her favorite show.... I
am very honored on behalf of the Britt Society Board and all Britt
Volunteers to officially present this Red Bud Forest Pansy tree in
honor of Teddi Wade. May it grow and flourish on this spot overlooking
the audience and the stage, just as she has stood on this hill and
inspired all of us to reach for the stars and change the world.
Thank you dear Teddi for all you are and all you have given us.
