Channel 10 News recently did a news story about how the recession is impacting local children. Natalee Morales, a reporter for KTVL, conducted an interview with Tucker Phillips, a Britt Institute String Quartet Academy student, who shared his story on how the recession is impacting his life.
The story showed how Tucker is learning the value of money and taking the initiative to pay for his new cello, set him back $2,100. He also wants to attend the Britt String Quartet Academy this year, which costs $700 after the scholarships he received from Britt. So how is a 13-year-old paying for all this? He is working. He works odd yard jobs around the Medford area and is slowly paying off his cello and saving money for camp.
After the television news story aired on Channel 10, Tucker received a few phone calls from people who saw him on TV who wanted to provide him with jobs. One woman heard Tucker's story and decided to have him mow her yards. She says Tucker does awesome work and they share something in common. She plays the cello, too.
Tucker still needs more work. If you or someone you know needs some yard work done and would like to help Tucker earn his way to the Britt Institute String Quartet Academy, please call Tucker at 541-664-3234 or email him at jaynicie@gmail.com.
