Local high school choir students participated in a Britt educational event on Friday, when they came out to Straight No Chaser's afternoon sound check. The Britt Institute String Quartet Academy took place from July 31st thru August 14th. The students study and perform with some of the nation's top professional musicians and instructors. During the two week program students are given the tools needed to expand their technique and musicianship in ways that will change their approach to music forever, compelling them to become more expressive and creative performers. This week two of the Britt Institute's summer programs are happening simultaneously: the Saxophone Workshop and the String Quartet Academy. Students are learning from top-notch faculty, performing in small quartets and larger ensembles. Both students and faculty will perform throughout the valley. The Britt Institute Jazz Camp students had a special opportunity this summer. Before Chris Botti's concert at Britt on Friday, June 26th, the students were able to sit down and learn from the jazz trumpeter in a master class. Jazz Camp student Kai Sandoval played for Botti, and following Bott's feedback, the students were able to ask questions. The photos below...

Britt Institute's String Quartet Academy is winding down its
two-week camp. This year, 41 high school and college students from all
over the country participated in the Academy, learning from the Arianna
Quartet, and enjoying master class and Q&A time with Britt guest
artists Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson and Midori. Britt's Music
Director Peter Bay also joined the students to conduct their string
orchestra rehearsal.
The students have been perfoming throughout
the valley, and they finish off the camp with a two-part recital
tomorrow, Saturday, August 16, at SOU's Music Recital Hall, at 11 a.m
and 2 p.m. The recitals are free and open to the public. Come hear the
results of the student's hard work!

Members of the Britt Orchestra perform a free chamber music concert on Sunday afternoon, and the String Quartet Academy students perform Saturday night in downtown Jacksonville with a "quartet on every corner," and on Sunday afternoon at Schmidt Family Vineyards. Britt has two music events tonight! In addition to the Three Dog Night concert in Jacksonville, the Britt Institute's Siskiyou Saxophone Workshop students will perform a recital in Ashland. The students will play in a saxophone orchestra at 6 p.m., prior to the Ashland City Band concert, at the band shell in Lithia Park in Ashland.
