The band, fun., is best known for the #1 song in the country, "We Are Young" featuring Janelle Monáe, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts. The song marks the first time in over a decade a multi-member rock band made a Billboard debut with the #1 spot in the Hot 100 since 2001.
Although fun. didn't form until four years ago, the band's members, which include vocalist Nate Ruess, percussionist Andrew Dost and guitarist Jack Antonoff, ran in the same indie circles for more than a decade, playing in different bands. When the trio came together in 2009 and made their first album together, Aim And Ignite, they weren’t expecting international success. "We thought we were too old, like, a decade ago," guitarist Jack Antonoff laughed.
“We Are Young” comes off the band’s second album, Some Nights. The single was recently covered in an episode of Glee, furthering the skyrocketing success of this previously unknown band. Special guest TBA.
Philadelphia
hip-hop duo Chidera Anamege and Noah Beresin, otherwise known as Chiddy
Bang, are best known for their frequent raiding of the alternative back
catalogue, sampling everything from Radiohead to MGMT.
2012 is shaping up to be a good year for the Philly duo, their well-reviewed Breakfast debut came in at No. 8 on the Billboard charts, and their “Mind Your
Manners,” video has received nearly 1.5 million views on YouTube.
Few rappers can say that they broke a Guinness World Record,
but Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege is on the elite list. The New Jersey-born
MC, who is one-half of rap duo Chiddy Bang, earned his place in history
last year by rapping for 9 hours, 18 minutes, and 22 seconds. He
dethroned the previous “longest freestyle” winner by a little less than
three minutes—but a win is still a win.
