Steve Miller Band / Joe Cocker
Lithia Motors Amphitheater, Jackson County Expo Park Sunday, August 3, 2008 • 7 p.m.
Initially
a fixture in San Francisco's "Summer of Love" scene as leader of the
Steve Miller Band, the Texas-bred singer, songwriter and guitarist used
his blues/rock roots to transcend the psychedelic trend and develop his
own enduring sound. In the ensuing decades, Miller has toured
consistently and seen his songs covered by artists as diverse as
Smashing Pumpkins, deftones, Seal, Run-D.M.C. and k.d. lang. The band's
Greatest Hits 1974-1978 has been certified platinum 13 times. Cumulatively, the Steve Miller Band has sold 25 million records since 1968's Children of the Future.
Joe Cocker possesses one of the world's most instantly recognizable
and iconic voices. He burst into the scene by injecting hystericized
soul into everything he touched, namely the Beatles' "With A Little Help
From My Friends." "You Are So Beautiful" and his Top 10 hit "Up Where
We Belong" continue to be pop music favorites. The uniformly
blues/gospel-ish material on his latest release Hymn for My Soul spans the decades.
