Each summer Rogue Valley families open their homes and their hearts to music. Begun in 1963, the Britt Orchestra Season host family program is one of the best "behind the scenes" stories at Britt. Over 100 musicians are housed by the community for three weeks every August.
Some of the host families are Britt members or Britt Society volunteers, but many are just people who love music and musicians. Hosts are recruited throughout the year. Musicians are responsible for their own transportation and meals during their stay. Hosts provide a place to sleep (and a place to practice).
While there are new hosts joining "the club" each year, many have been a part of the program for years (some like Ron and Gloria Bartlett, housed the same musician every summer for over 25 years). While the arrangements are for one three-week period, the bonds of friendship forged during theBritt Orchestra Season often lead to long-term associations between hosts and musicians.
