Message from the Britt Music and Arts Festival

Published: June 5, 2020

Britt Music and Arts Festival understands the trauma and pain experienced by people of color throughout our history as a country.

Britt condemns racism and injustice in all its forms, and stands by those who wish to change society for the better. As we strive to build a more inclusive world through the music we share with our community, we will reflect deeply on our role in promoting justice and equity for all. In the aftermath of the death of George Floyd (and countless others), and with the continuous outcry of sorrow and anger in communities nationwide, Britt stands by those who wish to finally end all forms of racism in our country.

After two months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all been anxious for life to get back to “normal”. However, it is clear that George Floyd’s death is tragic proof that we must aim for much more than a “normal” future. We must strive to build a “new normal” with the highest standards of justice and equality for all people. Our society was able to change so quickly in response to a worldwide pandemic – yet it has been painfully slow for us to root out all remaining systemic racial injustices in our country. We can and must do better.

While we cannot individually control the COVID-19 virus or actions that have happened around the country this past week, we are each responsible for how we respond in this moment and moving forward. Let us move forward with kindness, tolerance, and respect for the challenges people of color continue to face in America. Let us listen and learn. Together, we will build a better future.
