Erich Wolfgang Korngold: Violin Concerto in D Major (Tessa Lark, violin)
Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor
Known more for his film scoring than his concert music, Korngold’s studies and close relationship with Gustav Mahler led him to dedicate this concerto to Alma Mahler, Gustav’s wife. This performance closes with Gustav Mahler’s own Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor, an epic work that takes Beethoven’s innovations in the symphonic form to a whole new level.
